tfcbt-logo.png

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based therapy practice shown to be effective for children and adolescents. It is a structured therapy focused on challenging negative beliefs formed following a traumatic event. This therapy is broken into 3 phases as outlined below. It is most effective when a caregiver, or adult of the child's choosing, can be involved in services.

Phase 1

Stabilization

During this phase of treatment there is a focus on better understanding trauma and the impact it can have. This phase also works to promote the identification of experienced emotions and the ability to cope with them effectively.

Phase 2

Trauma Narrative

This phase of therapy works towards processing the traumatic experience while using coping strategies developed earlier in treatment.

Phase 3

Integration

After processing the trauma, this phase emphasizes safety and moving forward.
